Transformation

Posted by on Feb 3, 2012 in Pulse | 1 comment

As I sit here writing this blog I keep getting distracted by this strange noise in our house. For Christmas my daughter Lily received an interesting gift and this flutter of distraction is the result of what we gave her. On Christmas morning she opened a box containing a small jar that had what looked like a little bit of peanut butter and 4 little “eggs” that actually looked more like mouse droppings. We gave her a butterfly habitat and over the 6 weeks those tiny little guys have undergone an incredible transformation. They have been...

What’s In Your Hand?

Posted by on Jan 27, 2012 in News | 1 comment

I think most of us who are interested in spiritual things and believe that God created us for a purpose often find ourselves struggling to figure out what our purpose is and how God can use us.  Because we are so cognizant of our own weaknesses and limitations we think God certainly has better options than us to accomplish what He wants to do.  But as I have been following our Life Journal Reading plan and reading about how God used Moses in such incredible ways, I was reminded once again that God has equipped you and God has equipped me to...

Super Leaders

Posted by on Jan 20, 2012 in News | 0 comments

I am a BIG-TIME follower and fan of superhero movies. I didn’t grow up enjoying them even as much as I do now as an adult.  I find this type of movie to be very captivating and entertaining. Yes, they are pretty much cheesy and yes, there are way too many of them.  But you have to admit there’s something inspiring about the idea of a hero rising from nothing to overcome eminent danger to save the day. For an inspiring leader, there is perhaps no greater entertainment.  Let me share with you some life lessons I have learned from three...

Don’t React, Respond

Posted by on Jan 12, 2012 in Pulse | 0 comments

It’s Thursday morning, and as I began reading through todays scriptures on our “Divine Mentor” reading plan I am having a hard time getting past the first 3 verses in Luke 12.  Some verses make you want to throw up your hands in praise…others make you gulp and take inventory.   1 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Beon your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 There is nothing...

“Be Content”

Like so many others here at Pathways Church, I have committed to reading through the Bible this year using the Life Journal Reading plan developed by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro.  In addition to reading he also encourages journaling without trying to journal about everything you read.  Instead, capture one thing that God brings to your attention and really observe and apply that one verse or section to your life.   This week the schedule took me through Luke chapter 3.  John the Baptist was explaining to the crowd that had gathered what God...

Rocking 2011

Posted by on Dec 29, 2011 in Pulse | 0 comments

As we come to the end of 2011, I’d like to ask you a serious question… ready?  Here it is… Do you rock?!  If you don’t, then you need to.  I know personally I need to rock WAY harder and more often.  As the curtains are being drawn on another year, it’s a great opportunity to assess your “rockage.”  “What in the world are you talking about, Gary?”  I thought you’d never ask!   We’ve referenced the story of the children of Israel and their journey into the Promised Land amidst the rugged terrain of incredible...

Always in Style

Over the course of the last few months living in Wisconsin, I have been driving to and from the office from Waupaca, about a 45-minute trek each way.  Although it is never my favorite hour and a half of the day, the drive has allowed me to listen to podcasts from some great preachers.  This week I was listening to one of my favorites as he was guiding his church (like many across the world) through this holiday season.  As he said, “We’re going to be opening our Bibles to Luke…” I was sure I knew his exact destination.  Everyone...

The Perfect Gift?… Look No Further!

Posted by on Dec 16, 2011 in Pulse | 0 comments

With Christmas right around the corner, I am sure you are like me in that you don’t have a shortage of things on your “to do” list.  There’s decorating, shopping, Christmas parties, shopping, baking (or at least eating the baking), making Christmas plans, sending out Christmas cards and did I mention shopping?  It seems like a lot of our time during the Christmas season is spent on looking for that perfect gift.  Whether it is for our kids, our spouse, our relatives or friends, we always want to make sure we get the perfect gift for...
